Terms of use
Seatwise · 27 October 2026
In short
Seatwise suggests which side of the train to sit on. It is a free helper, not a guarantee: the sun, clouds, the train's direction and your seat can all turn out differently. Use it, enjoy it, and be kind with the photos you share.
Who we are
Seatwise is offered by Mathis Erler, Dorfstrasse 4, 3999 Oberwald, Switzerland. Contact: select@seatwise.ch.
By using the app or the website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Seatwise.
What Seatwise does — and does not
Seatwise calculates, from timetable data, the route and the position of the sun, which side of a train is likely to be sunnier or shadier, and which side the doors open on. These are estimates. Trains can run in the other direction, be re-routed, delayed or replaced, and platforms can change.
Seatwise is not an official service of SBB or any other transport company. For departure times, platforms and disruptions, always rely on the official information at the station and in the operator's app.
Timetable data comes from opentransportdata.swiss; maps and landscape data from swisstopo and other sources named in the app. We do not control these sources and cannot guarantee that they are complete or correct.
Your account
You can use Seatwise without an account. To share photos, like photos, keep saved journeys on all your devices or redeem a code, you sign in with Google, an e-mail link or a passkey. Keep your Google account, e-mail inbox and devices with passkeys safe; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
An account created by e-mail must save a passkey within an hour, otherwise it is deleted automatically.
You can delete your account and all your photos at any time (see the privacy policy).
Free, Pro and tester access
Seatwise is free to use. Pro and tester access are currently given through codes. A code can be limited in time or number of uses, is personal, and may not be sold. We may end tester programmes or change what Pro includes; if Pro becomes paid in the future, the price and conditions will be shown before you buy.
Photos you share
Sharing photos is for people aged 18 or older. Before your first shared photo you confirm your age and accept these terms; if the terms change, we ask again.
Your photos stay yours. You allow us, free of charge and worldwide, to store your photos (private ones too), make smaller copies, check their place and side automatically, review them when they are reported, and show shared ones to other Seatwise users while they are shared. Deleted photos can remain in backups for a short time. You can stop sharing or delete a photo at any time.
Photo rules: only share views from the train window that you took yourself. Not allowed: recognisable people or faces, licence plates, private places or personal data; nudity or sexual content; violence, hate, harassment or discrimination; anything illegal; advertising; other people's copyrighted images. Sexual content involving minors is never tolerated: such material is removed at once, the account is closed and the case is reported to the police.
Anyone can report a photo in the app. A reported photo is hidden at once until we have checked it; we then restore or delete it. We may delete photos and block accounts that break these rules, repeatedly or seriously, without notice where needed. Each user can also hide all photos of a person. Questions or complaints about a decision: write to us.
Fair use
Do not misuse Seatwise: no automated mass requests, no attempts to break into or overload our systems, no copying of the service or its data on a large scale, and no use that breaks the law. We may limit or block access to protect the service.
Problem reports
Testers can send problem reports from the app. Please do not include other people's personal data in them. We may use your feedback to improve Seatwise without owing you anything for it.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Seatwise running, but we cannot promise that it is always available or free of errors. We may change, pause or end features, or the whole service, at any time.
Liability
Seatwise is provided as it is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damage resulting from its use — for example a sunny seat, a missed train or a wrong door side. Liability for intent and gross negligence remains, as required by Swiss law.
Changes to these terms
These terms are dated 27 October 2026. If we change them, we update this page and, for important changes, say so in the app; sharing photos needs the current terms accepted again. Continuing to use Seatwise after a change means you accept the new terms.
Law and place of jurisdiction
Swiss law applies, without its conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protection of the country where you live is not affected. The place of jurisdiction is the operator's domicile (Oberwald, Switzerland), unless the law gives you, as a consumer, the right to go to court where you live.
